It started when Pink took aim at the VMA performances, criticizing a number of artists when she posted on Instagram that she "felt embarrassed and sad."
She explained, "Music is supposed to inspire. It saved my life. This trash won't save any kids life. In a world that is even scarier and with lives still worth saving, who will stand up and have soul? Disenfranchised to say the least."
Pink didn't name anyone in particular, but noted that she liked Macklemore, Pharrell, Justin Bieber and Tori Kelly's performances. She noted, "The rest was gross and embarrassing and hard for this aging pop star to believe."
Ouch.
It didn't take long for fans to connect the dots and think Pink was totally dissing Demi, who performed "Cool For the Summer" at the awards show.
Pink took to Twitter to clear things up about Demi tweeting: "Please look for a feud elsewhere. I have no issue with Demi Lovato or anyone else. I actually forgot she performed. I have opinions. MANY"
She added: "I stand by what I said. However, I didn't intend for the angry people of the world to latch on and make it into something it isn't. Peace."
Demi caught wind of Pink's commentary and defended her performance - and her past work that has inspired her fandom.
She tweeted this morning:
Cool For The Summer may not "save kid's lives" or "inspire" but I'd say Skyscraper & Warrior have done a pretty good job of helping people

cope with mental illness. VMA's are sexy and fun. There's a time and place for everything.

She followed it up by retweeting fans' personal stories about how her songs have helped them, adding: I'm excited for you all to hear the inspirational/honest/soulful songs on this album. #Lionheart #Father #StoneCold #Confident... Oct. 16!!

I'm learning so much every day by this new chapter in my life. I'm no longer the victim. I am the survivor.

What's wrong with being #Confident? 😝

This all comes on the heels of comedian Kathy Griffin taking aim at Demi's VMAs performance, so Demi has had a lot of slaying to do this week! While we understand Pink's point of view, it was the Video Music Awards - nothing is entirely too serious at this event and, besides, not every performance or song needs to inspire.
