New Blanket of Snow

Our beloved Mt. Hood has been looking barren over the last few months.  Our long summer had melted most of the snow and ice and it looked kind of sad.  But autumn finally arrived and the temperatures went down and we got some precipitation.. and the mountain got it's new white coat of snow.  The weather forecast was for a clear day on friday and then rain and clouds for days.  SO...

I decided to head out an hour ahead of a 5 pm chiropractor appointment to drive up to Jonsrud Point in Sandy, Oregon to snap a shot of the mountain all clean and white.  I took a road which I was sure was the right one and drove along through some tree nursery farms.. where I spotted the mountain looking gorgeous..

I started dropping into a heavily wooded curving road and I thought something didn't look right.. but I kept on hoping it was the right way.. soon enough I kept dropping down and finally wound up at Dodge Park on the Sandy River.  EGADS.. I had taken the wrong road and was way down in a deep forested gorge with no sight of the mountain in view.. :-(

OK.. new plan.. so I turned around and tried to drive at a quick rate to salvage my expedition.. and a little pickup truck was in front of me going.. gasp.. the SPEED LIMIT.. and I had to follow him for miles on the curving forested road... argh...

Finally he turned off and I was finally up on the higher road and I tried to remember which farm road that had a good view of the mountain.. I turned into one and dang.. it wasn't the right one.. I had to back up and get back onto the road safely..

The next one was it!  So, I bravely trespassed on the road and there it was.. in all it's glory!  I rolled down the window and started snapping photos as the alpenglow was there and was going fast.  There was a little patch of cloud cap on the top of the mountain.. sweet.

This was what I saw from my car on the muddy dirt road..

I was using my zoom lens.. in and out.. this and that..

How do I love this mountain.. let me count the ways..

Looking to the right at the tree farm growing different things.

The alpenglow is dimming.. the sun is slipping over the horizon...

I was only taking photos for about 5-10 minutes, then I backed down the farm road and got back onto the road and headed towards my appointment.. arriving with just a moment to spare.  Oh the adventures of a blogger.  :-)

I leave you with a "Waterlogue" watercolor painting of my pin oak and our little farmhouse.  I'm off to the annual meeting of the Friends of Multnomah Falls this evening.  It's always nice to have a gathering in the lodge.  I hope you have a good week ahead of you.  ((hugs)), Teresa :-)
