Now they feature in a new series called FOODMad already in its second season. While this name was sourced from social media as far as i remember, the idea behind the show is different. While HOMP was based on street food, FOODMad is to showcase cravings at more polished eateries.
These guys visit different cities, talk to the local foodbloggers there who take them around and show places of interest or places where one can have their cravings answered.
While i knew of their impending Hyderabad visit, i wasnt very keen on meeting them as i wasnt sure of their itinerary, the crowd following them, but when i knew that my friends Neidhi Kumar and Ashis Nayak - who also own the website FoodDrifter , were the ones showing them around my thought process changed.
When i came to know they are heading to Concu Cakes ( one of the most awesome bakeries in Hyderabad ) - things started to fall in place. While i remember telling Neidhi i had better fish to fry, i took back my words, made changes to the plans i had and headed to Concu.
R&M were supposed to reach Concu at about 5.30pm - reached half hour late and got down to business. They were able to make Sahil Taneja ( the owner/baker/assistant boss of Concu ) speak on camera - thats a great thing to get out of a man of very few words.
Personally i am a huge fan of Concu among some of my other fav bakeries which i have listed here, having Rocky and Mayur there was the incentive i need to visit Concu. Ive visited concu atleast 5 times in the last couple of months and there has never been a time where i have left empty handed or empty stomach - such is the awesomeness of the produce.
A tired looking duo settled down in the warmly lit Concu studio and got Swati and Sahil talking. I could see swati blush and sahil tone down his excitement - rightly so they were on camera. For a 2 year old patisserie its a phenomenal feat i presume.
Rocky and Mayur came out to be very down to earth and insanely funny. I was always intrigued by their food quotes on HOMP and when i knew they were impromptu i was impressed. Some of them were cheeky but some of them were absolute kickass.
They were here for a shoot , and shoot they did. Most of their lines are their own. Their is no script and to be continuously funny, you got to be real good and good they are. With the background of fireworks going off, they got their shoot underway for a brief introduction to where they were and what they were there for.
After this part they moved inside to interview Swati/Sahil and know more about their business and where and how they go about it. Mayur made it a point to mention the awesomeness of Kishi Arora and Pooja Dhinga (Delhi and Mumbai ) for their similar basis of operation.
For food anchors famous nationwide, i think thats the biggest certification one can get. I am sure Concu will be talked about in Delhi and Mumbai as well and they pretty much deserve it.
Concu is also coming up with a new cafe not far from their existing location and i look forward to it.
Once the shoot was done, Rocky and Mayur were chilling with fans outside and they had no air of being famous around them. Something thats pretty rare to see these days. I must agree it felt food hobnobbing with celebrities but they carry a huge responsibility on their shoulders and are undoubtedly the icons of food anchoring in india.
Oh not to mention the free hugs they were offering, anyone would want to hug them....i left for home thinking , sala mujh mein kya kami reh gai thi :)
