The Jiang Ju in For Honor seems very clearly to me to be an ode to Guan Yu of the Three Kingdoms storyline. Most American gamers will recognize the resemblance to the Guan Yu character in Dynasty Warriors games of which I am quite fond of.
As I've picked back up playing For Honor, I've gained even more of an appreciation for how it has become a 'service' as well. Very similar to the Rainbow Six or Destiny model, Ubisoft has allowed the developer to continue growing and tweaking both the gameplay and the content. The additional updates can be paid for in 'seasonal passes' or purchased outright through buying the in game currency.
Customizing each hero is fun as well since each part of their costume is visually able to change as well as being a part of the loot structure.
It's a shame that For Honor hasn't become a stronger part of the esports scene though. A part of me wished that a convention or tournament like EVO would have picked it up as a part of their roster just to diversify the type of fighting games that they have. It is very clear there is no other game on the market like For Honor and I kind of liken it to Battlefield. You clearly get the sense of melee combat and how visceral it can be through For Honor. It is relatively realistic (kinda) and there are spells or magic involved in the attacks.
You can even battle the AI alongside the players in some modes. As a diehard fan of battlefield games like Mount & Blade, Kingdom Under Fire, Dynasty Warriors, and others like them, For Honor's sequel could REALLY have a lot of potential if the next gen systems have the power to handle more AI alongside the players. A bigger battlefield and a way to grow and update your own soldiers would really make For Honor stand out.
